Burst pipe causes water problems

Hundreds of homes in Devon were left with water supply problems after a pipe burst in Elburton, near Plymouth.

It was estimated that up to 1,000 properties in Plymstock, Staddiscombe, Wembury and Heybrook were left with no water or low pressure.

South West Water engineers discovered a burst pipe on Reservoir Road at about 1400 GMT on Thursday.

Engineers restored supplies to some homes later that day. The remainder were reconnected on Friday morning.

South West Water dispatched 15 tankers to the affected areas to help residents who are having problems with their supplies.

The cause of the pipe burst is not yet known.
